Construction

Casper Mattresses8.9

Original Hybrid Mattress

The construction of this mattress is in four distinct layers, each serving a purpose.

Details

Polyurethane Top Layer

On the first layer is a polyurethane foam which is breathable and allows for cooling.

Memory Foam Layer

Beneath the polyurethane foam lies a memory foam which is unique in spine alignment while serving as a supporting layer.

Polyurethane Supporting Layer

Another polyurethane foam is second to the last layer. This one screams of more quality and firmness than the one atop the layers. This is due to its position in the supporting layers.

Hybrid Base Layer

Underneath the three layers of this mattress is a hybrid polyurethane foam with innersprings for reinforced support.

Wave Hybrid Mattress

With special attention given to coolness and comfort, this mattress comes in 5 unique layers.

Details

Polyurethane Top Layer

At the top of the descending layers of this mattress, there is a polyurethane foam which is breathable with a special Cooling technology – AirScape. Undeniably, coolness is a given here.

Original Latex Layer

Just beneath the polyurethane gracing the top as cover is another layer of foam sourced from natural latex for added softness and comfort.

Memory Foam Layer

Sitting at the layer is a memory foam significant for contouring and back support.

Polyurethane Supporting Layer with Gel Pods

Just before the last layer is another not too rigid polyurethane foam serving as supporting layer. It’s not alone. Paired alongside gel pods, it’s renewed softness, more comfort and better spine alignment for the sleeper.

Original Polyurethane Hybrid Foundation

At the foot of it all, lies a hybrid foam made of original Polyurethane foam and innersprings for even more support. The springs create a bouncy feel and aids more air flow.

Nova Hybrid Mattress.

This mattress features 7 layers of support all in the foundation layer and all incorporated into four basic layers which include:

Polyurethane Top Layer

As seen in the other brands, a breathable Polyurethane foam sits at the top most layer providing non-stop air flow and cooling effect.

Zoned Polyurethane Foam

At the second layer is a zoned polyurethane foam that is equally breathable and soft.

Contoured Memory Foam

At the third layer of this mattress construction is a contoured Memory foam to contour the body perfectly and serve the back sleeper well.

Hybrid Foundation

At the base layer is a hybrid combination of Polyurethane foam and individually wrapped coils for extra lift and maximum air flow.

Cocoon Mattresses9.4

Cocoon is an all-foam mattress (classic and chill). These construction details cover both versions since the sole difference is their covers. However, the mattresses come in two firmness options: medium-soft and extra firm.

There’s a slight difference in the construction of the medium-soft and that of the extra firm. While the medium-soft has a transition layer, the extra-firm version does not. Thus, the medium soft is in 3 layers and the firm feel in 2 layers. Their bases are also different, but that will be covered in the details.

Construction Details

Premium-grade Fabric Cover (Classic)

The cover here is made from 100% polyester. This gives it a soft feel and it’s quite breathable for the smooth passage of air if you love to sleep cool. This cover is durable and is a stretch-knit fabric cover.

Phase Change Cover (Chill)

The Chill mattress took a notch upwards for extra coolness with the infusion of a phase change material in its stretch-knit cover. This technology regulates the ambient temperature to keep you cool just when you need it. It’s also cool to the touch and stays fresh for you.

Comfort Layer

Both versions used premium memory foam in their comfort layers. The memory foam used is 2 inches tall. While you get immersed into both mattresses, this memory foam engulfs your whole body, adapts to its shape and size to give you a comfortable sleep all night.

Transition Layer

This layer is present only in the medium-soft option. It’s 2 inches of polyfoam that serves to convey the sleeper from the soft memory foam layer upwards down to the thick support base beneath. This transition allows the mattress to contour the body properly for pressure relief.

Support Core

The Baselayer or core of both mattresses is designed to be sturdy. This is to ensure it serves its purpose of durability and structural stability.

For the extra firm feel option, the base layer is 8 inches of high-density polyfoam which keeps the mattress in shape, and since it’s just beneath the memory foam, it creates the required firmness to support heavyweight sleepers.

The medium-soft option, however, sacrificed 2 inches of its base layer to form a transition layer just above it, making the support base 6 inches of high-density polyfoam. The transition layer limits direct interaction between the comfort layer and the sturdy base keeping things super soft.

Durability

Casper Mattresses8.7

All three mattresses from Casper are built with durable foams in their bases and in every other layer. This makes the question of durability negligible and to further to substantiate this, a warranty is in place.

Cocoon Mattresses9.6

The sturdy support cores/bases of both mattresses create not just a foundation and shape for the mattresses, but makes them resilient and sheer durable. With two years invested in research, hardly will Sealy come up with a product that won’t stand the test of time. That will be a slap on its integrity and years of experience in the industry.

The classic also offers a quality plush and breathable cover that allows massive in-flow of air for a cool sleep.

Back Pain Support

Casper Mattresses8.7

Original Hybrid Mattress

There is a rigid foam on the base layer with innersprings that helps to balance your spine properly. The memory foam also works for spine alignment while the sturdy original Polyurethane foam relieves pressure off your back.

Sleeping Type

Casper Mattresses8.8

Original Hybrid Mattress

This original hybrid mattress caters for the needs of every sleeper.

For side sleepers, the zoned support layer cuddles the shoulder and keeps the rest of the body especially the spine in proper alignment.

The back and stomach sleepers are not left out. This hybrid mattress sits on the medium firm position of the firmness scale and covers every kind of sleeper.

Wave Hybrid Mattress

At 6.5 on the firmness scale, the wave hybrid might not be the ideal one-firmness-fits-all sleepers kind of mattress.

Back Sleepers

For back sleepers, the coils beneath provide support and adequate firmness at the back coupled with a memory foam layer that contours perfectly. An additional latex layer limits sinkage to crown it all for back sleepers.

Side Sleepers

For side sleepers, this is also a great mattress so long as they are not too heavy.

Stomach Sleepers

For the stomach sleepers, this might not be the ideal mattress since it’s top layers are super soft and might not provide the needed firmness for their hips.

Nova Hybrid Mattress

The Nova hybrid mattress is on the medium soft range on the firmness scale.

For side and back sleepers, this mattress is ideal but for stomach sleepers, they might need to reconsider because this mattress might not grant them the extra support they need for their hips.

Cocoon Mattresses9.5

The cocoon mattress comes in two firmness options: the medium soft (5-6) and the extra firm (8-9).

The medium soft option is best for side sleepers. The softness will allow for medium sinkage and the contouring of their curves for full side support. The medium soft option makes the side sleepers have that in-the-bed feeling as the transition layer allows them to sink in deep for pressure relief.

The extra firm is great for the exclusive back and stomach sleepers. It creates the on-the-bed feeling rather than in-the-bed which is seen in the medium soft version. The firmness is great for stomach sleepers as it limits the deep sinkage of their hips which can be downright discomforting. The firmness also keeps the spine aligned for the comfort of back sleepers.

Conclusion

Cocoon, made by Sealy, has been on top of its game with sleep innovations to offer nothing but the best.

Cocoon is a resilient mattress brand from way back and joined the bed-in-a-box mattress revolution in 2016 redefining it’s dual all-foam mattresses: the Chill and Classic. (and now offering the Hybrid one as well)

Cocoon uses a premium quilted cover and a phase change layer for the covers of the Classic and Chill mattress respectively and then memory foams for cradling comfort.

Casper gives a good value for money beginning from comfort where it features Polyurethane top layers and memory foams. One of it’s Polyurethane top layers features a cooling technology known as Airscape which allows for more airflow and for a cooler sleep.

Cocoon performs better on back support and receives much better reviews than Casper.
